Our – Your – My – Song – 2020

–> german

Dear friends of online art,

we would like to invite you to join us in creating a sign of community and presence through art in times of physical distance. We – Marc Godau from the University of Applied Sciences Clara Hoffbauer Potsdam, Verena Weidner from the University of Erfurt and Christian Stick from the Franz Liszt School of Music Weimar – have launched a special pop music project.

Our team currently consists of:

Wolfgang Geiger, Nastassja NassChristian Stick, Maurice StenzelVerena Weidner, Jörg Zinke, Normen Goltz und Marc Godau.

Our challenge is as follows: We will release our own song together as an online ensemble, in which you all take part.

Hence, a song („I load my spirit up to you“) has been written and recorded as a sketch by the 29th of March. We want to bring this song to life with you. The song will be released as a so-called Virtual (Patron) Ensemble and sent out into the world. This means that we will publish and share it together in a multi-video clip. A well-known example was set by David Whitacre in 2010 with his Virtual Choir.

Our video is done

On October 2, 2020 our video was released. With this we have successfully realized a first-time performance. Never before did representatives of different universities, professional and amateur musicians and dancers as well as film producers write, arrange and compile a song as a compilation of various smartphone clips to a virtual ensemble in an informal joint project. We thank all participants for their valuable contributions and ideas. #weloveyouall

What was s the plan for the song?

  1. You write lyrics to the song with us until Friday, 27 March at 23.59 o’clock (see below). ✅ already done
  2. You will then record singing, instruments or dance performances with your smartphone or mobile phone cameras. This becomes our band performance. All video performances will be brought together in a video and will be released.

Make your individual performance (singing, playing your instrument/s or dancing) of the song with your Smartphone or Computer. Upload the video until April 26th to the following link (Password: Songshelfen)

The lyrics are written

Due to receiving many lyrical ideas from different writers, Normen Goltz, Christian Stick, Verena Weidner and I (= Marc Godau) produced a final version of the lyrics. Wolfgang Geiger created a leadsheet. All the lyrics were combined to a mutual song.

Your closed doors keep me far away.

My lips and hands won’t find your face

Who protects us from protecting ourselves?

Distance washes away human touch

Love me like we`ll never get enough

Love me like we’re alive

I will stand by you

And I load my spirit up to you

I will stand by you, we lift the world

I will stand by you

And I load my spirit up to you

I will stand by you, we´re standing strong

A skyline full of lights made of every you and me

becoming real in virtuality

Love me like we`ll never get enough

Love me like we’re alive

Chorus – Solo – Chorus

We will stand by you

We will stand by you

We will stand by you, we lift the world

We will stand by you

We will stand by you

We will stand by you, we´re standing strong

Here you can listen to the song’s sketch in order to play along, sing and dance along.

The first guidance clips are available. These serve as orientation for recording and singing into the mobile/smartphone camera.

And now it’s your turn

Anyone who loves making music and dancing can join in. The most important thing is that you want to make the world a better place, you are 18 years or older and you voluntarily participate. Upload the video until April 26 here using the password „Songshelfen“.

There are various ways how you can actively contribute to the performance with your video clip. You 🎥 film yourself with your smartphone/mobile phone/tablet 📲 or your laptop 💻. You can sing, play or dance to the song while listening to it through headphones 🎧 so that you are as synchronous as possible. All videos received will form a large virtual ensemble that performs the song.

Below you will find a table which should animate and inspire you to join in. You can choose from one or more sections and combine them or send in several videos. We believe that there’s something for everybody..
